2 DPS Noida boys in hospital after ragging

Noida: Two boys who recently took admission in Class XI of DPS Noida landed up in hospital on Monday night after being thrashed by a group of seniors who had been allegedly ragging them since they checked into the hostel last week.

An FIR was filed against 18 students. The district child welfare committee would quiz all the accused as they are minors, police said. The school's disciplinary committee is probing the matter.

The boys - a 15-year-old from west UP and a 16-year-old from Kolkata - alleged that the seniors would either verbally abuse them or ask them to take off their shirts and sit on their knees.

The aggressive behaviour made the 15-year-old nervous and his blood pressure shot up from anxiety. He had to be taken to hospital for a check on May 5, his father claimed.

On Monday, one of the two protested against the ragging at the students' mess. The two claimed the seniors beat them up with iron rods and kicked them. The Kolkata boy was punched repeatedly in his private parts.

It started with a group of 12-15 students of Class XII making derogatory remarks at us," said the 15-year-old student. "We decided to leave the hall but one of them came stood in front of us. He slapped me when I protested. Other senior students joined him and all of them started thrashing me with iron rods and boots," he added.

The other boy was attacked when he rushed to his friend's aid. "I thought the beating will lead to serious health complications for him.So I intervened and requested them to leave him. Half of the group then started beating me up," said the boy from Kolkata.

The thrashing continued for half an hour before the hostel warden rescued the students. They were then taken to Kailash Hospital.

Dr Sarika Chandra, casualty medical officer at the hospital, said both students had received injuries but were not in danger. "We conducted a check-up and offered primary treatment. Their condition is stable," she said.

Principal Kamini Bhasin did not respond to repeated calls and messages.

Both students said they feared for their safety in the hostel. "The senior students have threatened us with dire consequences. We want them removed from the hostel for our safety," the duo said. A police case was filed by the 15-year-old's mother.

Gaurav Grover, ASP, Noida, said an FIR had been filed against six named students and 12 others at Sector 20 police station under Sections 147, 148 and 149 (rioting and unlawful assembly), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.
